SELF SERVICE

Order your Publishing Point

Return to Self-Serve Description Page

You must first read the terms of use below.

Upon payment, you will receive detailed instructions in a PDF document, a publishing point, server passwords, a test web page on our server and an embed code that allows you to insert the webcast onto any web site.

You are 100 per cent responsible for your own hardware and for the management of the webcast. Galbraith Communications is not liable for any damages resulting from use of its publishing point.

You must use an Internet connection that has at least 550 KBPS upload speed. The connection should be wired (not wireless), dedicated and have no firewalls, routers or switches that could potentially block the stream from going out.

You must always do a test webcast using the exact same computer, Internet connection and hardware as you plan to use for the main event.

Be sure to test everything, including the performance of the encoder and your audio.

Never exceed a bit rate of 282 KBPS and make certain that your upload bandwidth is three times the level of your bit rate. For example, if webcasting at 282 KBPS, you will need an upload speed of at least 846 KBPS. This is absolutely essential. If you do not have three times the bandwidth as your bit rate, the encoder will eventually run out of bandwidth and stop. It is a good idea, during testing, to keep the encoder running for half an hour to make sure it does not stop.

If you choose to webcast at multiple bit rates, you must add the rates together to determine your total bandwidth needs. For example, if you webcast at 28 KBPS and 148 KBPS, this is a total of 176 KBPS requiring 528 KBPS.

You must use a computer that has at least 3 GB of RAM. It is vital that when testing, you examine the CPU load on the software. The load should never go above 50 per cent for more than 5 or 10 seconds. If your load hits 80 to 100 per cent for more than this amount of time, the encoder is working too hard and will eventually stop during the live webcast. One way to reduce the CPU load is to change the encoder format from Windows Media 9 to 8. This will make a huge difference. (This is explained in more detail with the PDF instructions supplied).

Do not leave the computer that is webcasting unattended. If something goes wrong and the encoder stops, you will want to be able to restart it immediately.

Do not give out your publishing point and server settings to anyone else and do not attempt to use them at the same time on more than one computer.

Galbraith Communications reserves the right to monitor your webcasts. If we determine that you are webcasting obscene material, material that contravenes any laws or you are not following these terms of use, we have the right to immediately disconnect your broadcast and delete the account. Please use the self-serve webcast account to broadcast only legitimate business or cultural events and please use the instructions provided.

Please allow 48 hours after payment for us to connect your account and send you everything. If you do not get an email back from us, please contact us at support@webcastcanada.ca or call us toll free at
